Greetings Mustangs!
We are looking forward to having you all back to in-person learning on Monday (01/31)! Monday will be a white day, and will begin the second week of the second semester! We will also be welcoming in the month of February this week which is also Black History Month (an annual celebration of achievements by African Americans and a time for recognizing their central role in U.S. history). Check out the display of reading materials in our Library!
Mask Wearing: Masks must be covering both the mouth and nose. It is extremely important that we are all on the same page with this expectation. As always, your cooperation with this expectation is greatly appreciated!
Red Cross Blood Drive: I want to thank the members of our National Honor Society who assisted the American Red Cross with their blood drive held at Cumston Hall on Tuesday (01/25). Despite the two-hour school delay due to the weather, the drive went on as scheduled!
Senior Class Meeting: Due to us being remote for the last three school days of last week, the Senior Class meeting that was scheduled for Thursday (01/27) was moved to Monday (01/31) at 9:00am in the Cafeteria.
Project Grad Update: The next Project Grad meeting for Senior parents will take place on Tuesday (02/01) at 5:30 in the MA Library.
Restroom Vandalism: We have been noticing an increase of vandalism in our student restrooms. I’d like to ask our students for your help in doing your part to ensure this is not happening at MA. Our custodians work hard to keep our restrooms clean and sanitized. By vandalism, I’m talking about some graffiti on the stalls/walls; trash on the floors (instead of the trash can); intentional clogging of the toilets; broken tiles; etc. As they say, “If you ignore it, you approve it.” Please let a staff member, Mr. Bell or myself know if you see any type of vandalism so that it can be addressed immediately. In advance, we thank you for your cooperation.
Guidance Update:
New College Acceptances:
Dan LeBeau: UMA
Jacob Godbout: CMCC, EMCC
Mara Poulin: UNE, USM
Taylor Truman: UMF
With the start of the new semester comes everyone's favorite time of year: report cards! The Guidance Office is happy to announce that report cards were mailed home on Thursday, January 27, 2022. Students are also able to view their grades online through Infinite Campus. Please email Mrs. Knowlton for more information on that.
This semester we will also continue to hand out Junior privileges. Juniors with a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher are eligible for these privileges. Mrs. Knowlton has emailed all students who can pick up their paperwork this week in order to sign out. If you have any questions about this, please email Mrs. Knowlton for more information.
Course descriptions and edits to the 2022-2023 Program of Studies are underway. This document will be ready within the next couple of weeks and we are gearing to start meeting with students about course selection for the 2022-2023 school year.
The field trip to Central Maine Community College was rescheduled for Wednesday, February 9, 2022. Juniors can pick up new field trip forms from their advisors starting this week. The trip will run from 9:00AM - 12:30PM and lunch will be provided in the CMCC cafeteria.
Mid-year Senior grades have been submitted to colleges and universities. The rest will be mailed out on Monday. Seniors should keep an eye on their notifications from colleges and keep Mrs. Knowlton informed if there are missing transcripts still listed by 2/4/2022.
Last, but not least, the scholarships are flowing in. There are nine local scholarships that have been posted and they continue to come in. Please check out the scholarship document and get started on your applications today!
Yearbook Update (from Dr. Ross): Hello Senior parents and families! Each year the Monmouth Academy yearbook offers parents the chance to create a personal ad, otherwise known as a Personal Display of Affection (PDA), that will show up in the yearbook. You can add however many pictures and messages that will fit to congratulate or recognize your student. You have the option to design the ad yourself or to submit photos and messages to me and we will create an ad for you. All PDAs will be sent to you for approval before publication. Materials and payment are due by February 14.
You can order your PDA by emailing me (eross@kidsrsu.org); sending information and money into the school; or going online and searching for Monmouth Academy and choosing to create a personal ad (https://yearbookforever.com). You can design your own PDA or submit photos and messages for the yearbook staff to design it for you.
We offer the following sizes:
Full Page = $150 (up to 24 photos)
Half Page = $80 (up to 12 photos)
Quarter Page = $50 (up to 6 photos)
Eighth Page = $30 (up to 3 photos)
Let Dr. Ross know if you have any questions or would like to order a PDA today.
