Greetings Mustangs!
It’s hard to believe that one week ago today the Class of 2022 graduated from MA! What a special day that was. The Project Grad event that followed was attended by 39 of the 49 graduates who had a great time thanks to the parents and local businesses who worked hard to ensure our graduates were well taken care of (as far as food, drink, games/activities, prizes, etc.). A special thanks to Mr. Schultz, Ms. Small, and Ms. Menice who joined me and about a dozen or so parents to chaperone another successful Project Grad.
Our baseball and softball teams made it to the play-off rounds. After defeating Carrabec in the Round of 16, our softball team lost to Winthrop on Friday afternoon in the Quarter-Finals. Our baseball team defeated Madison in the Round of 16 and Wayneflete in the Quarterfinals; but lost a close Semi-Final game to Lisbon by a score of 3 - 2 this past Saturday. Our Lacrosse co-op team with Oak Hill has advanced to the State Semi-Finals and will be playing against Waynflete on Tuesday - 06/14. Best of luck to the Lacrosse team! I want to say thank you to all of our spring sport athletes, our coaches, parents, and community members for representing MA with great pride, class, and sportsmanship!
Students in grades 9 - 11 have 1 school day remaining in the 2021-22 school year as the last regular academic day for underclassmen will be Monday - June 13th. Underclassmen needing additional time to meet their course requirements and/or to raise the scores in any of their classes will have until 11:30am on Thursday - June 16th (the last day of school for all students and staff). Let’s keep our focus and finish up on a strong note. If you find yourself in need of any type of support, please don’t hesitate to connect with a staff member, your school counselor, or an administrator as we are here for YOU!
CATC: The last day of school at CATC for Juniors will be on Monday - 06/13.
Freshman Orientation Night: On Monday (06/13) there will be an informational meeting for all current 8th grade students and their parents. Parents of 8th graders should have received a letter about this event last week. It will begin at 6:00pm sharp in the MA Gym. We look forward to welcoming the Class of 2026 to the Academy!
Laptop Collection: Students in grades 9 - 11 were expected to turn in their laptop, charger, and carrying case on Friday (06/10). If there was a need to keep a laptop, the student needed to connect with Mr. Brown at kbrown@kidsrsu.org and/or complete the laptop extension form. If a student was out for any reason and/or they did not follow this process on Friday, they will be expected to do so on Monday (06/13).
Student Check-Out Form: Students are required to complete this form BEFORE they will be considered eligible to leave for the summer break at the close of school on Monday - June 13th. This form was passed out and reviewed with students during advisory on 06/03 and/or 06/06. The form needs to be returned to the student’s homeroom advisor.
Summer School Update: As of this communication, we will be offering summer school for Math (8 days) and we may be able to offer summer school for English (4 days). For the time being, it looks like we will be able to offer Math support on the following dates/times: 06/21, 06/23, 06/28, 06/30, 07/12, 07/14, 07/19, and 07/21 (each day from 9:00am - 12:00pm). As for English, we are looking at the following dates/times for that program 06/21, 06/23, 06/28, & 06/30 (each day from 9:00 - 12:00). There will be NO school during the 4th of July week. Breakfast and lunch will NOT be provided; and students would be expected to get themselves to/from Monmouth Academy. Summer School is not about “seat time.” Once a student has completed the work owed and/or has met the required learning targets, they will be done with the program (whether that’s in a day; a week; or the full time period it will be offered).
There may be an option for some students to complete credit recovery through an online program called Educere. There are a limited number of seats available for this option. This program would require a student to be an independent/self-motivated individual who has access to the internet and is willing to commit to recovering credit for either a Science, Social Studies, or English course. The cost would be $100 per student (per course); and if the student successfully completes/passes the course within the 60 calendar-day window that they will be assigned, the school will reimburse the student/parent for the full amount. For further information, please contact Ms. Knowlton (our School Counselor) at sknowlton@kidsrsu.org or call our Guidance Office at (207)933-4416.
If a student is recommended to participate in this program, I highly recommend and encourage them to do so as it would take some stress/pressure off their plates for the next school year. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact Mrs. Knowlton. Thanks!
Report Cards: Teachers have until 06/16 to submit all final grades for the 2nd semester. Guidance will do grade verifications and will produce reports (which will include a copy of a student’s NWEA report if they took it back in May) which will then be mailed home no later than Friday - 06/24.
Election Day: Voting will take place at MA from 8:00am - 8:00pm on Tuesday (06/14). The voting will take place in the MA Gym. The public will access the gym from the gym entrance. Students will not be permitted in the gym; the locker rooms; the restrooms outside of the gym; or any of the classrooms outside of the gym between the gym and the student parking lot entrance. Students who have Mr. Morang, Mr. Foulke, Ms. Menice, Ms. Neal, and Mr. Morill will be asked to report to a classroom on the top two floors (or the Library) on Tuesday - 06/14. If a student needs to see Mr. Bell on Tuesday, they are asked to come to the Main Office and someone will get him for you. There will be one lunch on Tuesday, Wednesday, & Thursday of this week and that will be from 10:30 - 10:55 in the Cafeteria.
Dates to Note:
06/13 = Maroon Day (last regular academic day for students in grades 9 - 11)
06/14 = Individual make-up work/grade improvement (7:45 - 2:28)
06/15 = Individual make-up work/grade improvement (7:45 - 2:28)
06/16 = Individual make-up work/grade improvement (7:45 - 11:30; last student and staff day)
Summer Office Hours: The Main Office and Guidance Office at MA will be closed from 06/25 through 08/14. Both will reopen for business for the 2022-23 school year on Monday - 08/15 - from 8:00am - 3:00pm. I will be in throughout the summer, so if there is anything that can’t wait until 08/15 (after 06/24), please email me at tfinn@kidsrsu.org and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
This is the final edition of The MA Express! for the 2021-22 school year. I will be sending out a summer update by the end of July and that will be followed by a Back to School edition before the start of the new school year. Thank you for welcoming me into the MA family. I look forward to continuing serving as your Principal in the coming school year. I hope you all have a safe and enjoyable summer break. Take care and stay well.
Respectfully,
Mr. Ted Finn, Principal
