A few months ago, Richmond alum Sydney Choate (class of 2013) and her group DaCav filmed a music video at RHS called "Let's Take a Walk". This song tackles a powerful subject that many of our youth are dealing with on a daily basis: bullying. All of the students in the video are current students at Richmond Middle/High School (the video also features MBES teacher Rebecca Cassidy and bus driver Frederica Shorey) and gave up a Saturday to help film the video. To watch the process unfold was amazing!
Sydney directed the video herself and did an absolutely incredible job. The students worked tirelessly and patiently, filming some scenes 8-10 times. Some of the scenes were intense and uncomfortable. Some scenes brought tears to our eyes. This video, this song, and these students embody HOPE.
This was such a special learning experience made possible with the assistance of Mr. Bozeman for his supervision and school administration for their approval to use the school facilities.
We all realized that day how horrifying it would be to be bullied as well as just how powerful it would be to stand up to be that one person or group of people to stand up and say "stop".
Below is a link to the video. We are very fortunate to be able to take part in this special learning opportunity.
